Zachary Burns

I am a researcher in the fields of computational optics and computational imaging. My research has focused on the use of machine learning for applications such as super-resolution imaging and metasurface inverse-design. I am particularly interested in physics-informed machine learning and the interplay between model-based and data-driven methods.

I am currently a PhD candidate in ECE at the University of California, San Diego where I am advised by Zhaowei Liu and was a reciepient of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. I also have industry experience at Meta Reality Labs as a research scientist intern working on optimization of diffractive structures for AR displays and at Element Biosciences as a data scientist developing computer vision algorithms for spatial genomics.
